Humble Beginnings in the Hills
Born in Sribadam, West Sikkim, Lako Phuti Bhutiaβs football journey began in the most humble wayβplaying with a handmade ball. Inspired by her elder sister Nima Lhamu Bhutia, she developed a passion for the sport at a young age.
Her talent was nurtured at the Mangalbari Womenβs Football Academy, under the guidance of coach Palden Bhutia, where she refined her skills and built a strong foundation.
Rising Through the National Ranks
Lako Phuti Bhutiaβs dedication quickly earned her national recognition:
- Selected for the India U-19 team in 2012, participating in AFC qualifiers in Malaysia
- Made her senior national team debut in 2012 during AFC qualifiers in Palestine
- Earned 8 international caps and scored 1 goal
- Part of the Indian team that won the SAFF Women’s Championship in 2014
Her presence in the national team marked a historic step for women footballers from Sikkim.
