Born on 5 February 1968 in Soreng, West Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most influential political leaders in the state’s modern history.

Known popularly as “Golay,” he built his political image as a leader closely connected to the aspirations of ordinary citizens. His journey from rural Sikkim to the Chief Minister’s office reflects determination, resilience, and a deep commitment to public service.

In 2019, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) under his leadership formed the government, ending the long political dominance of the previous administration.

Since then, his government has focused on transforming governance through welfare-oriented policies, administrative reforms, and people-first development.
