Prajal Regmi: The Young Visionary Driving Sikkim’s Entrepreneurial Future

In a rapidly evolving India where youth-led innovation is shaping the future, Prajal Regmi has emerged as one of the most promising voices from the Northeast. A social entrepreneur and youth leader, Regmi is redefining how business, culture, and community development can intersect to create meaningful impact.

Born in 2003 in Gelling Village, Soreng District of Sikkim, Prajal’s journey reflects ambition grounded in purpose. From an early age, he demonstrated a keen interest in technology and innovation, later pursuing a diploma in Computer Science from the Centre for Computers and Communication Technology. However, his vision extended far beyond academicsβ€”he aspired to build platforms that empower communities and celebrate regional identity.

Early Beginnings: A Platform for Local Voices

Prajal began his entrepreneurial journey at just 16 with the launch of Nepanglish Open Mic, a creative platform aimed at showcasing local artistic talent. What started as a grassroots initiative quickly evolved into a movement that amplified voices from Sikkim and the broader Northeast, encouraging youth participation in art, music, and spoken word.

Building Brands with Purpose

One of Prajal’s most notable ventures is Ripra Clothing, founded in 2020. More than just a fashion label, Ripra was envisioned as a cultural statementβ€”celebrating Sikkimese identity through indigenous art and design. Despite launching during the global pandemic, Prajal demonstrated resilience by establishing a manufacturing unit in Lucknow, creating opportunities for artisans and ensuring the brand’s sustainability.

Continuing his entrepreneurial momentum, he launched Loopit in January 2025, where he serves as Founder and CEO. The venture reflects his forward-thinking approach and commitment to innovation in the startup ecosystem.

Leadership and Influence

Beyond his ventures, Prajal has taken on significant leadership roles within the entrepreneurial community. He serves as the President of the Young Entrepreneurs Forum India (Northeast) and is an executive member of the Sikkim Entrepreneurship & Economic Development Cell. Through these platforms, he actively contributes to fostering entrepreneurship, mentorship, and economic growth in the region.

Recognition on the National Stage

Prajal Regmi’s impact has been widely acknowledged through several prestigious recognitions:

  • Ashoka Young Changemaker (2022) by Ashoka, the world’s largest network for social entrepreneurs
  • Best Young Social Entrepreneur (2023) at the Forever Star India Awards
  • Selected for Jagriti Yatra (2024), a transformative 15-day, 8,000 km national journey representing Sikkim

A Voice for the Northeast

What sets Prajal apart is his unwavering commitment to promoting Northeast Indian culture while driving innovation. His work consistently reflects a deeper purposeβ€”creating platforms that not only generate economic value but also preserve identity and inspire community participation.

Shaping the Future

At just over two decades of age, Prajal Regmi stands as a symbol of what the new generation of entrepreneurs can achieve. His journeyβ€”from a small village in Sikkim to national recognitionβ€”underscores the power of vision, resilience, and social responsibility.

As the Northeast continues to emerge as a hub of creativity and enterprise, leaders like Prajal are not just building businessesβ€”they are shaping narratives, empowering communities, and redefining the future of entrepreneurship in India.
